Microsoldering Workstation BOM: A Four-Node Compatibility Checklist

Turn optics, imaging, support, and soldering hardware into a versioned bill of materials with measurable compatibility gates.

Why a bill of materials beats a shopping list

A shopping list says what was purchased. A workstation bill of materials records why the parts operate together and which evidence supports that decision. That difference matters when a lens, camera adapter, stand, power variant, or supplier stock location changes.

BENCH/GRADE treats a microsoldering workstation as four connected nodes: optics, imaging, support, and soldering hardware.

Node 1: optics

Record the stereo head, eyepieces, auxiliary objective, and any protective glass or ring-light mount. Verify:

  • total visual magnification at both zoom endpoints;
  • object field at the intended low setting;
  • smallest required detail at the high setting;
  • working distance with accessories installed;
  • optical and mechanical compatibility by exact part number;
  • trinocular port configuration if imaging is required.

Node 2: imaging

Record the camera, relay adapter, sensor format, output mode, cable, monitor, and lighting used during the test. Verify:

  • useful captured field without unacceptable cropping or vignetting;
  • motion response in the intended live-work mode;
  • exposure, gain, frame rate, and highlight behavior under real lighting;
  • saved image and video workflow;
  • measurement calibration at the exact optical setting, if measurements are claimed.

Follow the HDMI camera system checklist. Do not approve the node from output resolution alone.

Node 3: support

Record the stand, base or clamp, focus block, adapters, and installed load. Verify mounting diameter, vertical travel, primary reach, maximum required reach, drift, vibration settling, and safe swing/cable clearance.

The boom-stand geometry guide provides a repeatable test. Requalify this node whenever the optical head, camera, or light changes mass or geometry.

Node 4: soldering hardware

Record the station, handpiece, cartridges or tips, hot-air system, nozzles, board fixture, preheater, extraction, and region-specific power requirements. Verify:

  • supply voltage, plug, grounding, and manufacturer-approved operating region;
  • tip or cartridge family and replacement availability;
  • temperature-control and calibration procedure required by the process;
  • physical access under the microscope with the selected fixture;
  • heat and fume paths relative to the objective, light, camera, and cables;
  • ESD controls required for the work environment.

Electrical and safety suitability must come from current manufacturer documentation and applicable local requirements, not a marketplace title.

Cross-node compatibility gates

The four nodes must pass together:

  1. The optics focus on the real fixture while all tools can approach safely.
  2. The stand carries the complete optical and imaging load at the required reach.
  3. The light and camera path do not consume required clearance or hide reflective detail.
  4. The soldering and extraction layout does not pull cables, heat optics, or obstruct stand motion.
  5. Every powered item has the correct regional variant and documented warranty route.
  6. Every listed item has current fulfillment evidence for the customer's destination.

A failed cross-node gate blocks the configuration even if every individual product looks suitable.

Supplier and stock evidence

For each line, preserve supplier SKU, manufacturer part number, fulfillment country, last verified stock time, lead-time basis, landed-cost inputs, return route, and evidence for catalog text and images.

“In stock” without a warehouse country and verification time is not sufficient for a customer promise. If a supplier record becomes stale, the sellable status should fail closed until it is synchronized or manually reverified.

Version the configuration

Assign the BOM a revision and date. Store the exact tested quantities and compatibility notes. When any line changes, create a new revision and rerun the affected node and cross-node gates.

A minimal release record includes:

  • BOM revision and owner;
  • part numbers and quantities;
  • compatibility evidence links;
  • measured optical and mechanical values;
  • region and fulfillment evidence;
  • acceptance-test results;
  • substitutions explicitly allowed or prohibited.

Final release test

Assemble the complete bench, perform a representative navigation, inspection, rework-access, live-camera, capture, and stand-movement sequence, then verify the packed shipment or dropship lines against the approved revision.

Start a configuration in the workbench builder and use the technical catalog for available nodes. A draft becomes sellable only after compatibility, rights, stock, pricing, payment, tax, refund, and fulfillment evidence all pass.
